A most excellent Saturday...

Saturday last, has been named a most excellent day, by me!  And I should know, since I was awake for all twenty-four hours of it!

It started rather early in the morning, when Tullys from the inhabitance of Hillview set out on a long drive to country NSW.  Which for the day, was expected to be something else entirely!

Namely, a hidden town of Scotland...

Yes.  I know.  When we heard of this, we too were desperate to find out why/how a country New South Wales town holding a Scottish themed festival whereby they actually changed the town's official name from Bundanoon to Brigadoon, for a day was going to go!?!

So by mid morning we were there and in full Scottish swing!  Awesome!  I just spent the whole day admiring the differing tartans and kilts and knee high socks, and the sporrans!  How I need a kilt {even though they're not traditionally for the women to wear} and how I need a little leather pouch to hang around it!

And a themed festival is indeed not a themed festival unless one dresses up in the theme, of the festival!

So behold - my wee Scottish legs!

There was also the "Highland Games" to attend, with such events as Haggis Throwing, and the Caber Toss.  Below is Jamie not tossing the caber sufficiently well enough as the idea is to make it stand at 12 O'Clock - I think he would have done better, had he been wearing a kilt!

Soon after that we headed for home.  But that's not the end of the story...  And little did I know, at this time on said most excellent Saturday, my day was more or less just at it's beginning!

It was home for a quick unloading of children, reloading of equipment and exporting of ourselves to the gig - where antics included a girl jumping onto the stage at us in excitement that we had sung her happy birthday {as in The Beatles version!}  And a fellow who asked to jam with us on the piano at some point during the second set, who ended up playing with us for the rest of the night!  Encore lasted a whole hour!  And by the time we finished at 1am my feet and throat were as tired as could be.

So, did you think that was all?

You'd be wrong!  My next adventure of the day/night/morning, was a date at the National Gallery of Australia - MasterPieces From Paris - Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne & beyond!

The boys dropped me off at the gallery, after the gig at approximately 2am - where the party was just getting started. (Note:  You can always tell if there's a happening in Canberra if ABC radio is there doing a live broadcast!)

And they were!  And so it was, as I say a happening.

The National Gallery was staying open for the remaining 32 hours of the famously popular French Impressionists exhibition.  So I met my dearest Tully women there and we spent the early early hours of the morn with some of the best post-impressionism paintings from the Mussée Dórsay...

I arrived home at 4am.  And when I placed my head upon pillow soon afterwards, realised I had been awake the entire day!  Which made me wish I never needed to sleep - for if days were all as excellent as this, I would not ever again, want to close my eyes!

{ps: I got up three hours later, farewelled my Jamie on his latest work trip, and cleaned the house, hung washing, and drank hot chocolate with my loved ones!  What a life to love!}

Once

I don't watch much TV, and even less movies; but when a friend recommended I watch this Indie, Irish, musical film simply called Once, how could I refuse!  It's not a kids film so don't plan a family movie night -  it is just one of those grown up, quiet, poetic story telling masterpieces, and evidently, I loved it.

If you're not into music don't bother, but if you've ever wanted a glimpse into how it feels to be a musician with songs you've written to show the world, then don't delay.

Once has captured me.  I am loving the original songs from the soundtrack, and I know I will always love this film.  It is not what you expect, but it gives you more than you could have imagined.  My kind of modern film.

Timeless art

I've had the most fabulous week!  You know when your senses are particularly heightened?  When your eyes see art in everything?

When silence is a song.  When you remember to pray/talk to your Lord (and hear Him answer) all day long...

I'm sort of floating particularly today, inspired on a cloud after coming home from the Degas exhibition.

I took my very enthusiastic children along with me and we had a wonderful time.  It has also renewed their love for, and interest in learning French, which I just think is cool!

I have had that artistic boost needed to finish several songs which were patiently waiting for me at the piano.  And generally, I am inspired with the confidence to enter into photography and oil painting more seriously...  And by seriously, I mean, to just do it because it's fun, and enjoy it!  Which is what art is for.  I hope you will stay with me to see what these new endeavors yield!

I believe art, like love is an endlessly renewable resource!

It was an amazing feeling in the gallery today.  All of us people shuffling from picture to picture to see, and drink up the feelings portrayed by such an amazing artist.

This is what excites me, this art is timeless!  (And without one strict medium).  That's why I don't ever try to write about what is cool.  Just what is heartfelt, and real, and encompassed in passion.  Here's hoping, for timeless art.

Mellow greetings, and coffee house murals...

Mellow greetings to all, and sincere apologies for my recent lack of correspondence.  My computer is in at the Mac doctor, suffering battery "issues" and a kaput disk drive.  I have been left to wonder the world wide web armed with only my iPhone (ain't it rough) or any unattended computer at that I happen across!

I have been thinking up posts over the last few days, taking photos of this beautiful world where or whenever and the opportunity presents...

I have been playing a lot of piano, preparing for the new album, finishing off Bridges and second Verses, Outros and In...  Now, the above photo reflects absolutely none of the text below it so far until now.

The above is a gorgeous mural on the wall of one of my favourite coffee houses in Canberra.  I have been enjoying coffee in the presence of this South American looking expresso inspired picture for many years, and I noticed the other day that the shop is soon to be renovated and the mural will be gone.  So I had to take a photo of it to show you while I could.

I love the woman's hat, dress, and the red rose between the couple.  The expression on the waiter's face, and the overall colour scheme just makes me feel warm and comfortable and like, coffee!  I hope there will be something even more wonderful there soon to replace it, but I am disappointed to see it go.

I remember many conversations I have had there underneath that picture.  The sight of it makes me think of many things past, and I like the memories.  Many spirited, passionate, difficult, wonderful, political, personal and spiritual discussions have been conducted there over coffee with trusted friends, dear family; many more will come, and none (like this mural) will ever be regretted or forgotten.

iTunes sales!

I have received the stats from iTunes, and it looks like the album 'Twelve Short Stories" is selling well, which is very exciting!  It's funny what individual songs appeal to different people - I've had the song "Anna" be purchased by several people in Germany!  Perhaps it's time for a European tour?!

I have never been to Europe.  Looking forward to the day I get to go.  Especially England, how I would love to meet her!  I think every Australian who realises that we are an English colony, is keen to meet their parent nation, I know I am!

And anyone who has read, or watched BBC adaptions of Jane Austen or Dickens, has a longing to meet the country where such inspiration has sprung...

Pemberley...

And this is Miss Austen herself.  I just adore the idea that long after you have left this world, your artistic endeavors live on, and keep inspiring people.  I believe that art and inspiration are gifts from God.  So the artistry we leave behind in this world, is like a piece of life, left to inspire anew.

So don't forget who you are as artists dear readers, for your works shall be left here in the world to keep it turning round for ever more!

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

When are you gonna come down?
When are you going to land?
I should've stayed on the farm,
should've listened to my old man....

You know you can't hold me forever,
I didn't sign up for you!

I'm not a present for your friends to open,
This boy's too young to be singing the blues -

So, goodbye yellow brick road!
Where the dogs of society howl,
You can't put me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plow-

Back to the howling old owl in the woods,
Hunting the horny back toad...

Oh, I finally decided my future lies,
Beyond the yellow brick road...

Elton John, ah....

I saw him play at the entertainment centre in Sydney about two years ago - it was magical.

I hope in heaven I get put somewhere close to him and we can write songs together...

Until then I'd better keep practicing my piano!
